The picture indicates that it will hold a person up out of the water and allow a drink to be held in the cup holder without it descending into the pool water. However, the reality is, even though I weigh 160 lbs., my waist to my upper thighs are under water and the cup holders are hovering just above the water, so that with any movement at all, they descend into the water. I would not buy another one and it was a waste of my money.
